DAY 2 - June 12, 2024
Session 1 (10:00 – 11:30)
From Waste to Wonder: Transforming Organic Waste
Mode: Presentations and Panel Discussion
Description
Organic waste, which includes food scraps, yard trimmings, and other biodegradable items, makes up a sizable component of municipal solid waste in Jordan. Effective organic waste management is critical for mitigating environmental pollution, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and encouraging sustainable resource use. This concept note presents an approach for the organic waste management session in the Jordan Recycling Conference 2024, highlighting organic waste separation at source, waste collection, treatment, and upcycling options. This session objectives are:
· Emphasizing the need of effective organic waste management to lower the environmental impact.
· Promoting the diversion of organic waste from landfills towards beneficial reuse.
· Encouraging effective kitchen management practices to reduce food loss and food waste.
· Foster community engagement and awareness regarding the importance of organic waste management for environmental sustainability.
· Facilitate the implementation of cost-effective and scalable solutions for organic waste treatment and utilization.
